Rapid Communications announced the launch of a mobile money remittance service termed MobiPesa that was developed in conjunction with Alghurair Money Exchange, a leading financial institution in the United Arab Emirates.
MobiPesa is a mobile money remittance service that will enable Kenyans living in the UAE to send funds through an Alghurair Agent to an Mpesa or Airtel Money account to Kenya. This will be the second mobile remittance service serving the growing number of Kenyans in the UAE. According to Central Bank statistics, remittance inflow amounted to USD 107.5 million in September 2013, roughly 16 percent higher than last year.
“Kenyans in the Diaspora have contributed a significant amount to our economy. With MobiPesa, we’ve simply provided a simple and convenient platform for Kenyans in the UAE to continue channeling funds to loved ones here in Kenya.”
